Benjamin Logan (12-6, 10-4)  used early offense and a dominant pitching performance to blank Indian Lake (8-9, 7-5) 2-0 on Monday in Central Buckeye Conference baseball action. In a game that featured two of the best arms in the CBC, the Raiders exited victorious.

The Raiders scored once in the first inning and once in the seventh, which proved more than enough behind a complete-game shutout from junior Jacob Hawley. Benjamin Logan finished with two runs on four hits, while holding Indian Lake to four hits for the game.

Benjamin Logan struck quickly in the opening frame when Xavier Allen scored to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The margin stayed tight throughout the middle innings as both pitchers settled in, with chances limited on both sides.

Hawley was in control from the outset for Benjamin Logan, scattering four hits over seven innings while striking out six and issuing no walks. He consistently worked ahead in the count and induced routine contact, keeping Indian Lake from mounting any sustained threats. Hawley was as advertised. The co-leader in wins for the CBC has been delivering strong performances for the Raiders all season long.

Offensively, Allen led the Raiders, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Parker Yelton drove in a run and added a hit, while Adam Tinsman and Soli Hughes each recorded a base hit for Benjamin Logan. The Raiders played clean baseball defensively, committing no errors in support of Hawley.

Indian Lake starter Jaxon Snipes also delivered a strong outing in the loss, striking out eight while allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits in a complete game.

Despite the effort, the Lakers struggled to generate offense against Hawley’s command and Benjamin Logan’s defense.

Nixon Lillard paced Indian Lake at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Cooper Hall and Chance Persinger each added a hit. Indian Lake had the opportunity to make a splash in the game yet did not get the timely hit to push across any runs.

Benjamin Logan tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning to put the game away, pushing the lead to 2-0 before Hawley closed out the shutout in the bottom of the frame.

With the win, Benjamin Logan strengthened its position in the Central Buckeye Conference, while Indian Lake was left searching for timely hits in a tightly contested pitchers’ duel.

The two teams play against one another on Wednesday night at Benjamin Logan High School at 5:15.
