The Bellefontaine Varsity girls’ softball (3-8) had rough first half of the week, dropping both their Monday and Tuesday matchups against Kenton Ridge (12-0) and Piqua (9-4).

The beginning part of the week was one to forget for the B-Town girls. Losing the early week games by a combined 30-3.

The opponents they played were no slouches: Kenton Ridge, which has a 44-game winning streak dating back to the start of last season, and Piqua, which averages more than nine runs a game this season.

Monday against Kenton Ridge was the first of two grand tests of the week. Losing by way of a two-hitter twirled by the KR pitching staff.

Reigning CBC player of the year, Ivee Rastatter, was on the mound for the Cougars. She performed in typical ace fashion, spinning three innings of 1-hit softball with seven punchouts.

On the night, only one Chief was able to get a hit, and she collected both of them. Senior Addison Wical was the lone girl to find any resemblance to offense.

Kenton Ridge sent three home runs into orbit in the game, two of which came off the bat of Brenna Fyffe. Freshman Bailey Myers hit the third of the game.

Bellefontaine was able to tread water and stay within striking distance for the first three innings of the game. That was until the Cougars threw an 8-spot in the score column in the 4th inning of play to halt any drama from occurring.

Bellefontaine dropped Monday’s game by a score of 13-1.

Then came Tuesday’s challenge in the form of the Piqua Indians.

Piqua hopped on the Chiefs from the outset to take firm control of the game. They scored 4 in the first inning, immediately showcasing their offensive prowess.

Once more, the fourth inning caused major problems for the B-town ladies on Tuesday, allowing 10 in the inning.

Every girl who came to bat for the Indians recorded at least one hit in the contest. As a group, they put up an impressive 18 hits in a shortened game.

Home runs came to haunt the Chiefs again on the day. Piqua sent two balls over the fence, one each by the duo of Athena Duff and Raylie Sterling.

Once more, the Bellefontaine girls struggled to find consistency at the plate, only recording three hits in the contest on Tuesday.

Joy Fogan and Brilee Joseph were the two who left on Tuesday with a hit in the contest.

Bellefontaine Softball returns to action looking to right their wrongs on Friday as they make a trip to Benjamin Logan High School (5-5).
