URBANA — Some races are about personal bests. Others are about community. This one is about hope.
Saturday, Sept. 5, families, friends, walkers, runners, and supporters from across the region will gather for the second annual, “I Walk for Her/Run Baby Run 5K” at Sycamore House Pregnancy Resource Center.
More than just a race, the event serves as a reminder that an entire community can come together to support women and families facing some of life’s most difficult decisions.
Organizers say every step taken during the event represents encouragement for women who may feel overwhelmed, uncertain or alone. Funds raised through the 5K help Sycamore House continue providing free pregnancy tests, options counseling and practical support for families, including diapers and formula.
The organization is also raising funds toward the purchase of an ultrasound machine.

The family-friendly event welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. New this year is a wheelchair race, creating even more opportunities for community members to be involved and celebrated.
In true hometown fashion, the day will be about more than crossing a finish line. After the race, participants can enjoy refreshments, prizes and fellowship while learning more about the work being done at Sycamore House.
Tours of the facility will also be available, giving supporters a firsthand look at how local generosity is making a difference in the lives of area families.
Organizers encourage participants not only to register, but also to invite family members, friends, coworkers, and church communities to sponsor their efforts. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps ensure that women and families have access to resources, encouragement and compassionate care when they need it most.
For many, race day will be measured in miles. For others, it will be measured in lives touched, families strengthened and futures changed.
As neighbors gather on a September morning, lacing up running shoes and pushing strollers, they will be united by a simple message: no mother should have to face life's challenges alone.
