Many people attended the West Liberty Fire Sales Saturday, accompanied by their umbrellas and ponchos. (NIKKI BURKHAMER | THE CHRONICLE)

Full sidewalks were a constant throughout the rainy and stormy Saturday morning, May 16, that played host to the annual West Liberty garage sales.

Most of those who peddled their tables full of unwanted clothing, household wares, toys, and various items found some success with their efforts to turn trash into another’s treasure.

Cars that roamed slowly through the streets found it hard to find a place to park.

Several downpours may have attempted to stop the frugal spenders from perusing the town’s sales, but they pushed through the afternoon to find the items they just had to have.

“We did pretty good, even with the rain,” Michelle Cordell said as she watched several people looking over what her family had to offer.

Michelle’s granddaughter did well, herself. Oaklyn Quinton proudly offered refreshments to thirsty passersby.  Her lemonade stand filled many glasses with the sweet yellow drink, and it was good. I had to buy a glass for myself.

“Lemonade! Lemonade! Come get your ice-cold lemonade!” she called.

You can't get more hometown nostalgic than that- sunny, humid heat, garage sale crowds, and lemonade stands. Summer break will soon be upon us.
