Benjamin Logan (16-7) rode a dominant performance in the circle from Grammar Hawley and a crisp, opportunistic offense to a 4-0 victory over Northwestern (10-16) on Thursday.
Hawley controlled the game from the outset, shutting out Northwestern while limiting hard contact and keeping runners from advancing. The CBC first-team selection struck out 10 and walked one on his way to the complete-game win.
The Raiders backed the effort with flawless defense, committing no errors and consistently converting chances behind Hawley. Adam Tinsman led the way with four assists.
Benjamin Logan took the lead in the first inning after capitalizing on pressure on the basepaths. A wild pitch allowed the Raiders to plate the game’s first run and seize early momentum.
The Raiders added to the lead in the third. Carter Fay sparked the inning with an infield single, putting immediate pressure on the defense. Moments later, Tinsman had the moment of the match, stealing home to extend the advantage. The Raiders would tack on another run in the frame to build a comfortable cushion.
Offensively, Spriggs and Fay led the way with two hits apiece, each driving in a run. The Raiders complemented the timely hitting with aggressive baserunning, stealing five bases in the contest. Xavier Allen accounted for two steals, while Tinsman’s steal of home stood out as the game’s most daring baserunning play.
Defense was just as important as the Benjamin Logan Offense. Parker Yelton paced the unit with 10 fielding chances, helping anchor a clean performance in the field that gave Northwestern few opportunities to generate offense.
Northwestern’s best production at the plate came from Hughes, who went 2-for-3 and accounted for multiple baserunners. However, the Raiders’ pitching and defense kept Northwestern from stringing together hits or pushing a run across.
With the win, Benjamin Logan advances in the southwest sectional bracket, while Northwestern’s season comes to a close. Ben Logans faces Valley View at home on the 27th for their next postseason test.
