The Indian Lake Varsity Lakers (6-5) defeated Central Buckeye Conference foe Northwestern Warriors (4-9) 5-0 on Monday night, April 20. Indian Lake was fueled by tremendous pitching and consistent offense to outlast the Warriors.
On the bump, Indian Lake was fueled by the Junior duo of Jaxon Snipes and Brady Golliday. Snipes was on the mound for five innings of 7 strikeout ball that saw the Lakers take a 3-0 lead before handing the ball off to Brady Golliday, who shut the door with no hits allowed in his two innings of work.
On the night, the Lakers swatted 11 hits. Led offensively by Lane Kipker and Aaron Rapp.
Kipker had 3 hits and 2 RBIs on the night, knocking 2 doubles and a single in the game. Rapp went 2 for 2 with a walk, collecting an RBI of his own in the contest.
Sophomore Reed Strayer also chipped in with a triple on the night.
The Lake took the lead immediately in the game, taking a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
Scoring twice in the fourth inning to swell the lead to 3-0, the Lakers kept chipping away at and building a lead. Northwestern stayed within striking distance after knocking out the starter Snipes.
Snipes handed the ball over, and the offense added 2 more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make the lead 5-0, landing it at its final score.
Strong defensive play was equally impressive for the Lakers in the contest. They left the contest with a perfect fielding percentage on 21 outs recorded.
The Lakers will return to action at home on Wednesday against this same Northwestern Warriors team.
