The Lady Chiefs (2-5) lost a tough one at home Monday night, April 6, against Tecumseh (4-3), 5-6 in a Central Buckeye Conference matchup. Despite a late comeback attempt, the Lady Chiefs had strong performances across the board.

The battery of Joy Fogan and Riley Crabtree had 11 strikeouts on the night, stymying batters left and right. Behind the arms, the Chiefs were charged with three costly errors.

Of the Lady Arrows the Chiefs faced, the problem child for Bellefontaine was the bat of sophomore Kiera Matthews, who was credited with not one, but two home runs on the night. In addition to the long ball, she drove in four of the six total runs in the contest for the Arrow girls.

Tecumseh hopped to an early 3-0 lead three innings into the ballgame before a four-run fourth inning response from the B-Town ladies. Heading into the fifth inning, the score was 4-3 in favor of the home squad.

An immediate four-run response was issued from the Arrows in the fifth to reclaim the lead at 6-4 and keep the lead for good.

The Lady Chiefs fought back in the bottom part of the frame, but could not push the game-tying run across, leaving the game at what would be the final score of 5-6 and Tecumseh walking out of Blue Jacket Park with the win.

Offensively, the Chieftain ladies were led by Ava Dolan, going 2-3 with a double, and Addison Wical going 2-4.

The Chiefs were able to out-hit the Arrows but could not push base runners past home plate. On the night, the hometown team had nine hits to the visitors’ seven.

The Lady Chiefs, we will be back in action on Wednesday, April 8, at Tecumseh for the rematch.
