Jaxon Snipes hurls a pitch towards home plate in the District Semifinal against Anna. | INDIAN LAKE HIGH SCHOOL

ANNA, Ohio — Indian Lake’s season came to a heartbreaking end Tuesday as Anna delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 6-5 victory in the district semifinal.

The game’s final blow came with the score tied at five when an Anna batter lined a base hit to score the winning run, sending the Rockets into the district final and ending the Lakers’ season at 11-16.

Indian Lake showed resilience throughout, rallying from an early deficit to force a tense finish. Anna built a 4-0 lead through three innings, but the Lakers chipped away steadily. Indian Lake plated runs with the help of a hit-by-pitch, a sacrifice bunt, a double, another hit-by-pitch and an Anna error to cut into the lead.

The comeback fully materialized in the fifth inning when Aaron Rapp delivered a key double to tie the score, and Indian Lake evened the game again in the top of the seventh when another Rocket error allowed the tying run to cross the plate.

Rapp led the Lakers offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and an RBI. Chance Persinger also provided a spark, reaching base in three of his four plate appearances and finishing 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. In total, Indian Lake recorded six hits with five different players contributing at least one.

On the mound, Jaxon Snipes turned in a strong performance despite the no-decision. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits while striking out nine and issuing no walks. The outing continued a trend of control for Snipes, who has been particularly effective when limiting free passes.

Lane Kipker took the loss in relief, pitching one-third of an inning and allowing the winning run on one hit while striking out one and walking three.

Defensively, the Lakers were hurt by four errors, which led to extended innings and ultimately influenced the outcome.

Anna, which improved to 22-5, enters the next round having won 15 of its last 17 games.
