Logan County athletes delivered a deep and wide-ranging set of performances across Division III, IV and V regional track and field meets, producing multiple state qualifiers while also showcasing a strong collection of near-misses, personal bests and scoring finishes across nearly every event.
At the Division III regional in Piqua, Bellefontaine leaned on senior standout Kelsie Snapp, who turned in one of the area’s top performances of the weekend. Snapp captured the discus title with a throw of 136 feet, 6 inches (41.60 meters), controlling the competition from start to finish. Snapp added a second state berth by placing fourth in the shot put at 40-4 (12.29 meters), giving Bellefontaine a two-event qualifier heading into the state meet.
Senior Callie Shumaker also advanced, finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.96 seconds after qualifying out of prelims in 15.05. Shumaker remained in contention for a second berth in the 300 hurdles, running 44.53 in preliminaries before placing fifth in the finals with a 45.39, just outside the top four cutoff. In other Bellefontaine results, freshman Layla Davis posted a personal-best 1:00.45 to finish 11th in the 400 meters, while Jillian Ullom placed 14th in 1:03.70. Distance runner Grace Brown finished 11th in the 1600 in 5:22.98 and improved to sixth in the 3200 with a time of 11:08.26, earning valuable team points but falling shy of qualification.
Benjamin Logan’s Division III effort was highlighted by a regional championship and a field-event qualifier. Senior Carter Daniels cleared 16 feet even (4.87 meters) to win the boys pole vault, one of the top marks in the state this season. Junior Abby Vance advanced in the long jump with a third-place leap of 17-9 (5.41 meters), while also contributing in the sprints. Vance qualified for the 100-meter finals with a 12.59 prelim time before placing eighth in 12.81, and she ran a personal-best 25.59 in the 200 prelims before finishing seventh in the finals at 25.79.
Benjamin Logan also saw several athletes finish just outside qualifying positions. Kyla Godwin placed fifth in the discus with a personal-best throw of 121-6 (37.03 meters), while Kaylee Hays finished 13th at 109-7. Storm LeVan clocked a personal-best 50.08 in the 300 hurdles to finish 15th, and Autumn Cline added an 11th-place effort in the shot put at 34-8. Scarlett Elliott finished 15th in the pole vault at 8-6, while Madi Oakes recorded no height in the high jump. The 4x100 relay team of D. Varner, LeVan, Elliott and Vance finished 14th in prelims in 51.85.
Indian Lake produced two qualifiers in Division III competition while adding several additional competitive results. Senior Christopher Timms secured a state berth with a second-place finish in the boys shot put, throwing 55-9.75 (17.01 meters). Senior Addison Beck advanced in the girls high jump with a fourth-place clearance of 5-3 (1.60 meters), a personal best. Beck also competed across multiple events, placing 12th in the 100 meters in 12.76, 12th again in the 200 in 26.38, and 12th in the long jump at 16-5.5 (5.01 meters).
Teammate Gavin Henry made a strong run at qualification in the 110 hurdles, advancing from prelims with a 14.92 before finishing fifth in the finals at 15.10. Terra Beltz placed 14th in both the discus (76-3) and shot put (30-9), while Carter Barnett finished 15th in the boys long jump at 18-3.5.

At the Division IV regional in Chillicothe, West Liberty-Salem assembled one of the most complete team performances among Logan County schools, qualifying multiple entries for the state meet. Chloe Griffith captured the regional title in the 100 meters, winning in 12.44, and also anchored two relay teams to state qualification. Tori Douthwaite added a second-place finish in the pole vault at 10-8 and later placed sixth in the 100 in 12.9.
The Tigers’ 4x100 relay team of Douthwaite, Lea Brickner, Ava Poppe and Griffith finished second in 49.50 to secure a state berth. The 4x200 relay, consisting of Douthwaite, Brickner, Gwen McCullough and Griffith, placed fourth in 1:45.2, while the 4x800 relay team of Malia Miller, McCullough, Isla Leichty and Arianna Weaver also finished fourth in 9:53.46, sending all three relays to the state meet.
West Liberty-Salem also collected several additional scoring finishes. Arianna Weaver placed sixth in the 800 meters in 2:22.47, and Malia Miller was sixth in the 3200 at 11:55.49. Ava Poppe narrowly missed advancing in the shot put, finishing fifth with a throw of 39-4.75.
In Division V at Chillicothe, Calvary Christian’s John Gaertner secured the program’s lone state berth by finishing fourth in the 800 meters in a personal-best 1:58.68. The Eagles also saw both relay teams reach finals but fall short of qualification, with the 4x400 placing sixth in 3:32.75 after a 3:32.55 prelim, and the 4x800 also finishing sixth in 8:25.57.
Across all divisions, Logan County athletes combined for regional championships, multiple top-four finishes and a number of close calls, building momentum ahead of the OHSAA state championships next weekend, where qualifiers will compete for podium finishes against the state’s top competition.
