Mechanicsburg (10-0) scores three in the fourth inning to defeat the Tigers from West Liberty (7-5) by a score of 3-2. Despite outhitting the Indians 8 to 4, the Tigers could not push across many runs to be able to unseat the perfect Indians atop the Ohio Heritage Conference.

The game went three and a half frames before seeing the first runs come across, with the Indians scoring 3 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Reese Oder pitched six innings of four-hit baseball for the Tigers, striking out five and giving his team a boxer’s chance to knock off the undefeated Indians. Oder was able to pitch 5 scoreless frames outside of the 3-run fourth.

Mechanicsburg’s arms were shoving on Monday night. Senior Conner Eyink went 5 innings of one-run ball, striking out nine during his time on the mound.

After being down three runs in the fourth inning, the Tigers were able to chip away in the fifth and sixth innings. Scoring a run in each of the frames to make the score 3-2 heading into the final inning of play.

Sophomore Matthew Davis was able to get the 6-out save in the game.

Mechanicsburg was only able to get 4 hits on the night, yet they were the most impactful at-bats in the game. Davis, DeLong, and Huffman were all able to collect 3rd-inning RBIs in the contest.

West Liberty received RBIs from Braden Hershberger and Josiah Johnson, and every hitter in the lineup aside from one was able to get a hit in the game.

West Liberty plays Tuesday night again in a rematch of Monday’s contest against Mechanicsburg.
