For West Liberty’s mayor, the path to public service didn’t begin in government — it started in an antique shop.

“I pretty much grew up in the top of an antique shop,” Mayor Brad Hudson said, recalling his childhood in Waynesville, where his mother ran both a shop and a restaurant.

After school, he helped wash dishes and spent weekends at auctions, learning early lessons about hard work and value.

“That’s kind of part of what I do now… I focus on rarity.”

That sense of appreciating what’s valuable, whether it’s antiques or community, has followed him throughout his life.
