More than a dozen members of the Logan County Senior Center Quilt Group found a way to share a practical and beautiful gift of comfort and care with local foster and kinship care youths through a recent heartfelt donation.

Thursday, June 18, the quilters presented five handmade quilts that they’d been working on since January to the nonprofit organization Raising Arrows, which serves the foster and kinship community in Logan, Champaign, Clark, Union, Hardin and Shelby counties.

Megan Kandel and Sarah Ames from Raising Arrows accepted the quilts at the senior center, 934 S. Main St., where the quilt group gathers for their meetings twice a month. Ames is also a member of the senior center.

“We all love to quilt, but on our own, a lot of us quilters might not have an outlet for our quilting, since our family members each have so many quilts from us,” group facilitator Sheri Krepps said with a laugh.

“Creating quilts for groups like Raising Arrows brings us so much joy. We hope the children will really enjoy them.”

Each of the members of the Logan County Senior Center Quilt Group created individual blocks for the quilts and then the blocks were sewn together to form the twin-bed sized pieces. The quilts featured a wide variety of colorful fabric in fun patterns, from floral to polka dots, giraffe print and animal themes.

“The quilts are so beautiful; there’s so many different patterns and designs to look at,” said Kandel, who serves as the Raising Arrows secretary.

“These gifts are so appreciated. They are made with love and we can’t wait to pass them along to the kids. That will make them feel very special.”
