Tuesday night was filled with Three Rivers Conference action as the Riverside Pirates (13-4) traveled to Northridge High School (0-10) to take on the Polar Bears.
Syler Clark toed the mound to the tune of six innings of 12-strikeout baseball. As a batter, Clark got on base every time he stepped up to the plate, twice by way of a hit, twice getting walked by Polar Bear pitching.
While on the basepaths, he wrecked even more havoc, swiping three bases on the night and coming around to score four times.
He and Pirate running mate, Cooper Crouch, combined for five hits and got on base seven out of their eight opportunities.
A closely contested game was busted wide open in the third inning after a 6-run Pirate assault took place. Taking on two more in the fourth and three more in the sixth inning forced this game to conclude early via the run rule.
The offense was fueled by the errors of the Polar Bear pitching; the Pirates drew 12 walks in the contest and only struck out three times in 23 at-bats.
As a pitcher, Clark now lowers his ERA to 1.70 and sits in second place in the TRC with strikeouts at 49.
As a team, the Pirates’ success on the season is fueled by the pitching. The team has three pitchers who are among conference leaders in Innings pitched, ERA, and wins.
The Pirates return to action on Thursday to take on Troy Christian (8-5) in another TRC battle.
