The Riverside Boys Varsity Baseball squad defeated the Miami East Vikings (4-1) on Tuesday night 6-2.
Fueled by the arm of Brody Orsborne, the Pirates were able to stymie the Vikings’ offensive attack and advance to nine wins and two losses on the season.
Orsborne was a two-way tool for the Pirates on the nights. Along with the seven innings of nine strikeout pitching, he also led the Pirates in hits with two. He roped a double and got a single, going 2-4 on the night.
Riverside started the game hot, scoring four runs in the opening frame to kick off the action in the Three Rivers Conference game.
The Vikings had an immediate response for the four-run first inning, scoring two runs of their own to open the second inning, making use of a Titus Eberwein and Brennan Lilly doubles in the inning.
The Pirate had seen enough of the Vikings scoring on the day, though, and held them to just those two runs for the contest.
The Pirates were fueled by timely hitting and plated discipline, drawing four walks on the night, and scoring two unearned runs.
Senior Tony Robinson had the biggest hit on the night, he had a two-RBI hit, on the night to help propel the team to victory. Other Pirates, Camden Shoe, Braydon Moore, David Gross, and Cooper Crouch all collected hits on the night.
Fielding for both teams was spotty at times, with Riverside committing three errors on the night, and Miami East committing five of their own.
Aside from the first inning four-run blitz, the Pirates were able to add insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings, to make the final score 6-2.
The win places the Pirates atop the Three Rivers Conference record-wise, yet still behind Bethel in conference placement, at second.
The Riverside boys will be back in action on Thursday night, April 16, in Covington to take on the Buccaneers (3-6).
