The Logan County Visitors Bureau is launching a new program this summer, which invites local residents and travelers alike to lace up their running shoes and to explore Logan County, while supporting local races.
Run LoCo is a county-wide running challenge, where participants collect stamps at races, track their progress and complete six out of 10 races to earn a custom Run LoCo Challenge Coin.
“Weʼve teamed up with established local races across the county to create a single, season-long challenge that encourages runners to travel, explore and experience Logan County along the way,” said Jamison Thornton, Logan County Visitors Bureau director.
Thornton notes that you don't have to be a runner to participate. Walkers are always welcome at every one of these races, and many finishers walk at least a part of the race.
The Visitors Bureau director said he enjoys being active, more so as an avid cyclist, but has participated in 5K races, too. This fitness idea spurred the Run LoCo trail for 2026.
“I was thinking about how we could engage some segments of our community that tend to get overlooked. Logan County has a surprisingly strong running and cycling community, but we don't organize all that well,” Thornton said.
“I wanted to do something to bring attention to the great organizations and the races they put on and try to get the community out and active this summer.
“We also know that runners like to travel a little for their races. So if we can bring some runners from outside the community to experience what we have here, stuff them full of carbs and let them shop a little, it should be a great time for all!”
To get started, runners and walkers should pick up a Run LoCo passport card, either at the participating races or at the Logan County Visitors Bureau. Then make sure to have your passport stamped upon race packet pick up or after you cross the finish line.
This year’s Run LoCo races are:
June 6 - LoCo Kids Pineapple Dash 5K;
July 4 - West Mansfield Firecracker 5000;
July 4 – 5K on the Lake;
Aug. 1 – Rushsylvania Rockets 5K;

Aug. 22 - 49th Annual Big Orange Summer Run;
Sept. 7 – Liberty Spirit 3-Miler;
Oct. 24 - RushChurch RushRun;

Once your six races are completed, be sure to submit your completed card and receive the official Run LoCo Challenge Coin as a keepsake.
In addition to the passports, the Visitors Bureau also offers a community on the run tracking app through Strava. Users can look up and join the Run LoCo running club, compare miles logged and participate in virtual versions of each race on the challenge.
Thornton is looking forward to lacing up his running shoes and for a busy first season for Run LoCo.
“I've run a dozen or so 5K's in my life, but only one here in Logan County. So this will be my chance to put in the miles.
“The feedback has been great. Everyone has been very positive about it, and we've had quite a few people pick up passport cards.”
