Logan County Commissioner Joe Antram and members of the Bellefontaine Shade Tree Commission were on hand Friday morning, May 8, at Bellefontaine Elementary School to plant two red maple trees near the playground area of the BES.
Assisted by Bellefontaine Middle School students and members from the Bellefontaine Parks Department, the young trees are now in the ground and will, with a little luck and some help from Mother Nature, be a part of the school grounds for the next several decades, perhaps longer.

First established in 1975, the Bellefontaine Shade Tree Commission is comprised of a group of community volunteers, leaders and concerned citizens that care about the city’s urban and community forest. According to its mission statement, the STC has a management plan to maintain a healthy resource of trees in the community and works closely with other city officials, departments and key stakeholders to implement the elements of this plan.
