Storms spread through the Miami Valley with a fierceness on Tuesday night. Multiple games throughout the sectional tournament had to be expedited and suspended for Wednesday continuations.
At Brookville, the Indian Lake Lady Lakers (11-15) built a 9-7 lead over Brookville (16-10)before storms rolled in and halted play in the final inning. Officials ultimately called the game, leaving it unfinished. The teams are scheduled to return to Brookville on Wednesday afternoon to complete the contest, weather permitting. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Taylor (19-3) in the next round on Thursday, May 21.
Bellefontaine’s season came to an end with a 10-3 loss to Tipp City despite strong individual efforts. Addison Wical paced the Lady Chiefs offensively, going 2-for-4 at the plate, while Joy Fogan added a home run that tied the program’s career record. The loss closes the season at 5-20 for Bellefontaine. The program will graduate several seniors, marking the end of their high school careers.
Weather also played a significant role in West Liberty-Salem’s (9-14) sectional matchup with Tri-Village (19-5). The game was suspended in the third inning with the Tigers trailing 6-1 against the top-seeded Patriots. The contest is scheduled to resume on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.
The winner of that game will move on to face the winner of another suspended sectional contest between No. 3 Houston and No. 5 Springfield Northeastern. That matchup was also interrupted by storms and remains incomplete, with a tight score when play was stopped.
Tuesday’s widespread delays and suspensions highlight the impact of spring weather on postseason play, as lightning and heavy rain swept through the area, forcing officials to prioritize player safety. With several games still to be decided, teams will return to the field under uncertain conditions, hoping for clearer skies to determine who advances in the sectional bracket.
