West Liberty-Salem High School was well represented in the Ohio Heritage Conference postseason honors, with multiple Tigers earning recognition on the league’s all-conference baseball team.
Leading the way for West Liberty-Salem were Isaac Sertell and J.J. Johnson, who each secured first-team all-conference selections. The duo’s consistent performances throughout the season helped anchor the Tigers and played a key role in the team’s success within the Ohio Heritage Conference.
Sertell emerged as one of the Tigers’ most reliable contributors, delivering strong efforts both at the plate and on the mound. His .492 batting average was good for second-best in the conference. Couple that with his fifth-place ERA at 1.40, and you have one of the premier players in the OHC.
Johnson, meanwhile, made his mark with steady all-around play, earning the respect of coaches across the conference. His .433 was sixth in the league, giving the OHC one of the best one-two punches in the conference.
In addition to the first-team selections, West Liberty-Salem had three players earn honorable mention honors. Joey Johnson, Braden Hershberger, and Reese Oder were each recognized for their contributions during the season. The trio provided depth and consistency for the Tigers, stepping into key roles and helping the team maintain its presence in a competitive conference.
Joey Johnson showcased versatility throughout the year, contributing in multiple facets of the game. Hershberger delivered timely performances, with 15 RBI on the year and 11 stolen bases. Oder’s steady play added to the Tigers’ balanced roster; he was second on the team in runs, coming across the plate 22 times on the season.
Tucker Searles was named the team’s recipient of the conference’s Sportsmanship Award. The honor reflects Searles’ leadership, attitude, and respect for the game, values emphasized by the Ohio Heritage Conference.
The collection of awards highlights a strong showing for the Tigers; a third-place finish in their division was well earned by the players listed in the awards. The all-conference selections reflect both individual effort and the team’s overall commitment throughout the season.
