The Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs picked up their second victory of the season Tuesday night, edging county rival Indian Lake 3-2 in a hard-fought conference matchup.
The Chiefs got a pair of goals from Junior Sloan Stolly, while Sophomore Layla Davis added another as Bellefontaine found just enough offense to come away with the win.
Senior Emma Whitaker anchored the Chiefs in goal, helping organize the defense and keep the Bellefontaine back line in position throughout the contest.
Indian Lake refused to go quietly, getting goals from Abby Bihn and Allison Overmyer in a tightly contested battle.
Bihn's goal was particularly memorable, marking the first high school goal of her career. She later helped set up Overmyer's goal with an assist, giving the Lakers a two-goal offensive contribution from the young standout.
Despite the loss, Indian Lake goalkeeper Izzi Mackesey turned in an impressive performance, making 20 saves to keep the Lakers within striking distance throughout the match. Mackesey currently ranks third in the CBC in saves.
The result gives Bellefontaine its second win of the season as the Chiefs continue to build momentum late in the year.
The Chiefs will face a tough task on Wednesday when the Shawnee Lady Braves head to AcuSport Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
Indian Lake will look to bounce back Wednesday when the Lakers travel to London for another matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
