The Bellefontaine Chiefs will hit the road Friday night looking to turn the page and find some offensive rhythm when they travel to take on the Kenton Ridge Cougars in a Week 6 matchup.

Bellefontaine enters the contest at 1-4 following four consecutive losses, while Kenton Ridge has surged to a 4-1 record after rattling off four straight victories. The Cougars' lone loss came in Week 1 against Graham, a 34-24 defeat, before Kenton Ridge responded with four consecutive wins, including a 49-7 victory over Northwestern last week.

For the Chiefs, the biggest challenge may be finding consistency on offense.

Bellefontaine has already gone through three quarterbacks this season, making establishing continuity and developing an offensive rhythm a difficult task through the first half of the season. The Chiefs have scored 59 points through five games, with 17 of those points coming in their Week 2 matchup against Bellbrook.

One player who could be critical to changing that offensive production is junior wide receiver Dillon Jones.

Jones has 241 receiving yards on the season and gives the Chiefs a proven playmaker on the outside. Finding creative ways to get the football into Jones' hands — whether through the passing game, quick-hitting plays or opportunities in space — could be an important part of Bellefontaine's offensive game plan Friday night.

The Chiefs will also need their defense to be ready for a Kenton Ridge offense that has found its stride.

The Cougars have scored at least 40 points in each of their last four games, putting up 41 against Northridge, 46 against Batavia, 40 against Shawnee and 49 against Northwestern.

Leading the charge in the Kenton Ridge backfield is Brody Runkle, who enters Week 6 as the conference's leading rusher with 673 yards.

Containing Runkle will likely be one of the primary assignments for a Bellefontaine defense that has spent plenty of time on the field this season. The Chiefs will need to limit Kenton Ridge's ability to sustain long drives and keep the Cougars' explosive offense from getting comfortable.

Anchoring the defense is Aven Caudill, who has recorded 43 tackles through the first five games.

Caudill's presence in the middle will be particularly important against a Kenton Ridge rushing attack that has consistently produced big plays. If Bellefontaine can slow down Runkle and force the Cougars into passing situations, the Chiefs could give themselves more opportunities to keep the game within reach.

But the task won't be easy.

Kenton Ridge has been on a roll since its Week 1 loss and will return home Friday night with plenty of momentum. The Chiefs, meanwhile, are searching for an answer after back-to-back shutout losses to Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake.

For Bellefontaine, Week 6 is about more than simply getting back in the win column. It's about finding something that can carry forward into the second half of the season.

A consistent quarterback, a more involved Dillon Jones and a defense led by Caudill could give the Chiefs the ingredients they need.

Now, they'll have to put them together for four quarters.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Kenton Ridge High School.
