The Bellefontaine Chiefs traveled to Sidney on Friday night and returned home with a season-opening victory, defeating the Yellow Jackets 35-14 to improve to 1-0 on the year while extending their winning streak over Sidney to seven consecutive games.

After spending most of his high school career at other positions, including earning First Team All-League honors on the offensive line last season, senior Blake Loomis stepped under center for the Chiefs and delivered an impressive performance in his debut as quarterback. Loomis completed 17 of 24 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score of his own.

From an efficiency standpoint, Bellefontaine excelled on both sides of the offense. The Chiefs averaged 5.4 yards per play through the air and on the ground, finishing with 141 passing yards and 179 rushing yards as a team.

What began as a competitive back-and-forth contest was broken open in the third quarter when Terrence Hayes scooped up a Sidney fumble and returned it for a touchdown. The defensive score gave the Chiefs a two-possession advantage and shifted momentum firmly in Bellefontaine's favor.

The Chiefs' defense was sharp throughout the night, limiting Sidney's opportunities and keeping the Yellow Jackets out of the end zone for much of the contest. Sutton Daring and Aven Caudill each recorded interceptions off Sidney quarterback Andrew Lundy, helping neutralize the Yellow Jackets' passing attack.

Lundy found some success on the ground, rushing for 70 yards as Sidney leaned heavily on both him and running back Jamari Combs to generate offense. However, the Yellow Jackets struggled to establish a consistent aerial attack against Bellefontaine's defense.

Daring and Caudill were impact players all evening. In addition to their interceptions, both defenders led the Chiefs in tackles and were a constant disruptive force throughout the game.

Bellefontaine will return home this Friday for its home opener against Bellbrook
