2026 CBC Mad River Champions Benjamin Logan Raiders. BENJAMIN LOGAN SOCCER

The Benjamin Logan boys soccer team capped a remarkable regular-season turnaround Tuesday, defeating Springfield Shawnee, 1-0, to secure the outright Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division championship.

Freshman Santiago Solano scored the decisive goal 14 minutes into the match, converting a pass from his brother, Ben Solano, to give the Raiders an early advantage. Benjamin Logan’s defense made the goal stand, limiting Shawnee’s scoring opportunities and preserving the shutout behind goalkeeper Carter Phillips and the back line.

The division championship marks an impressive finish for a Benjamin Logan squad that faced an uphill climb early in conference play. After opening its league schedule with an 0-3-1 record, the Raiders responded by winning their final six conference matches to finish atop the division standings.

The team’s defensive performance has been particularly impressive during that stretch. Benjamin Logan recorded shutouts in each of its final five contests, combining timely scoring with a defense that has consistently prevented opponents from finding the net.

Head coach Hughes credited the team’s persistence and ability to deliver results, even when circumstances were difficult.

“They just found a way to win every time out, and that is what is special about this team,” Hughes said.

The Raiders faced challenges late in the season, battling injuries and fatigue while continuing their push toward a conference title. Despite those obstacles, the team maintained its focus and completed its six-game winning streak with the championship-clinching victory over Shawnee.

“They have been beat to death the last few games, and they fought through all of that to still come out on top,” Hughes said. “They deserve a few days off to rest up and prepare for next week. I couldn’t be more proud of these warriors, and I love these guys.”

Benjamin Logan finished the regular season with a 10-4-3 overall record, closing the campaign with both a division championship and considerable momentum heading into tournament play.

The Raiders will return to the field Oct. 24, when they host West Liberty-Salem at 7 p.m. as they begin their postseason pursuit.

After overcoming a difficult start to conference play, Benjamin Logan has transformed its season into a championship run, highlighted by six consecutive victories and five straight shutouts. The result is an outright CBC Mad River Division title and a fitting reward for a team that continued to find ways to win when it mattered most.
