The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders (22-2) saw their outstanding volleyball season come to an end Thursday night, falling to Wyoming High School (18-5) in a dramatic five-set battle in the Southwest District final.
Benjamin Logan appeared to be in complete control early, racing out to a 2-0 advantage behind a pair of dominant performances. The Lady Raiders claimed the opening two sets by identical 25-13 scores, putting themselves one set away from capturing a district championship.
However, Wyoming refused to go away quietly.
Facing elimination, Wyoming responded with a 25-20 victory in the third set to cut the deficit to 2-1. The momentum continued to shift as the teams battled through a tightly contested fourth set. Wyoming eventually escaped with a 26-24 win, forcing a decisive fifth set and sending the district final to its dramatic conclusion.
With the championship hanging in the balance, both teams battled for every point in the final set. Wyoming ultimately prevailed 15-12, completing the comeback and bringing Benjamin Logan’s postseason run to an end.

Despite the heartbreaking finish, the Lady Raiders have plenty to celebrate after putting together one of the finest seasons in program history. Benjamin Logan closes the year with an impressive 22-2 record and a Southwest District runner-up finish.
The Lady Raiders' success was built on countless hours of preparation, determination and a commitment to one another. Their ability to navigate the regular season and make a deep postseason run demonstrated the talent and resilience throughout the program.
A season that saw the Lady Raiders sprint out of the gates to a 12-1 start and eventually a 22-1 record into the District final is no small feat, and becoming one of the most dominant sports teams in Logan County, regardless of the sport.
While the final result was not what Benjamin Logan hoped for, the accomplishments of this group should not be overshadowed by the outcome of one match. A 22-2 season and a district championship appearance represent an outstanding achievement for a team that gave its community plenty of reasons to be proud.
The season may have ended in heartbreak, but the Lady Raiders leave the court with their heads held high after a memorable campaign that will not soon be forgotten, and lessons that will hope to propel this team to future highs in the season to come.
