If you like watching high-energy musical performances with a toe-tapping beat, Bellefontaine High School is the place to be this weekend.

BHS hosts the Band Spectacular at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at AcuSport Stadium, reaching a major milestone this year for the 40th annual event.

The Band Spectacular started as a band competition, but has evolved into a fun performance opportunity for area bands.

A variety of music and styles will be represented in each band's performance, making each show unique. Different types of bands will participate, such as show bands (non-competitive bands) and contest bands.

Eight area high school bands will perform (in the following order): Riverside, Jackson Center, Triad, Urbana, North Union, Lincolnview, Benjamin Logan and Bellefontaine.

This year, the “Pride of the Tribe” will be performing two different halftime shows; the first is called “Summer Vibes,” featuring music from The Beach Boys, Olivia Rodrigo, Donna Summer, and Grease.

The second show is titled “Music of Star Wars” and features the iconic music of John Williams throughout the space saga.

Admission is $7 in person.

To mark the 40th anniversary and the America 250 celebration, a combined patriotic performance will close the evening, featuring 400 performers.

The Bellefontaine Music Boosters will be selling concessions. 50/50 tickets will also be available. ■
