Blessing of the Buses marks fifth year

The Blessing of the Buses has officially become a Bellefontaine City Schools’ tradition as for the fifth consecutive year.
The ceremony was conducted at Bellefontaine High School Tuesday morning, Sept. 1, asking a higher power to keep those who drive and ride the buses during the school year safe from harm.
The Rev. Blake Kenner, a former detective with the Bellefontaine Police Department and a retired School Resource Officer (SRO), kept the tradition going as he offered his testimony and prayers and asked for blessings at all five ceremonies.
BCS dispatches 13 buses, which travel a total 783 miles every school day, both picking up and dropping off students before and after school.
Tammie Garman is the BCS transportation supervisor.
BCS returned to school this week with grades K-8 and freshman camp stating Wednesday, Sept. 3 and grades K-12 scheduled to be back in class starting Thursday, Sept 3, before getting Monday, Sept. 7, off for the Labor Day holiday. Preschoolers start school next week. ■
