The blighted buildings that stood at 208 S. and 212 Detroit St., Bellefontaine, just south of the old Untied States Post Office building, are in the process of being razed, thanks in part to a $230,000 grant received by Logan County under the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program in July.

Ohio sets aside $21.5 million every fiscal year for these grants, which target water infrastructure improvements, broadband expansion, brownfield redevelopment, the demolition of blighted buildings and other projects.

Logan County is one of 73 counties to receive a $230,000 grant this year.

Since the program was initiated, the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization grants have distributed over $325 million to all 88 counties in Ohio, supporting nearly 6,700 demolition projects.

The monies received locally will also go toward razing the properties at 131 W. Chillicothe and 621 Jay Ave. in Bellefontaine.

Other demolition projects in the county include the properties at: 6081 State Route 274 in Huntsville; 11016 County Road 293, 11301 Pocahontas Path; 11492 Elm St., 145 Place St.; 195 N. Main St.; and 270 Bentz Ave in Lakeview; 7612 C.R. 37 in Lewistown, 157 North Orchard Island Road, 7764 State Route 366; 8046 State Route 366 in Russells Point; and 306 Yost St. in Quincy.
