The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) announced this week that Deepika Scheiderer, assistant principal of Benjamin Logan Middle School, is the recipient of the prestigious OASSA Ohio Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year Award
She was selected based upon her outstanding leadership, commitment to students and dedication to building a strong school community.

“I'm proud to announce that Deepika Scheiderer has been named the OASSA Assistant Principal of the Year for the State of Ohio! This is a major honor, and Deepika is more than deserving,” said Sally Stolly, Benjamin Logan director of administrative services.
“This also qualifies Deepika for consideration to be the NASSP National Assistant Principal of the Year.
“While she'll be the first to admit that this is really a team award, there is no doubt our team is better because of Deepika's leadership.”
The OASSA process recognizes outstanding assistant principals from across Ohio who exemplify excellence in school leadership. A committee of OASSA Board of Directors members carefully reviewed the candidates, and Scheiderer was selected to represent Ohio as the Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year.
“The OASSA is honored to recognize Deepika Scheiderer for her student-centered leadership and her commitment to building systems that support the success of every learner,” officials concluded their release.
“Her collaborative approach reflects the belief that strong schools are built through relationships, shared responsibility and a commitment to helping every student thrive.”
Scheiderer is in her second year as assistant principal at Benjamin Logan Middle School and has served as a school administrator for two years.
Benjamin Logan Middle School serves approximately 506 students in grades 5-8 and maintains a 94 percent attendance rate and 100 percent graduation/promotion rate, according to the OASSA release.
At the heart of Scheiderer’s leadership is her belief in the “Every Student Every Day” motto, she helped establish as her district’s mission more than a decade ago. She begins each morning greeting students at the school doors, using those interactions to reinforce her commitment to seeing each student as an individual with unique strengths and aspirations.
Her leadership has also helped strengthen the school’s approach to student support. In response to identified gaps in tiered support, Scheiderer collaborated with staff to refine the school’s WIN period and add RAIDER Time, creating intentional opportunities for relationship-building and goal-setting. She is also preparing to implement Behavior Academies designed to provide targeted academic and social-emotional support while moving the school toward a more restorative and proactive approach to discipline.
Scheiderer has helped develop the school’s Raider Core Values — Respect, Authenticity, Integrity, Determination, Excellence, Responsibility, and Safety — in partnership with staff, students and families.
These values support predictable PBIS environments, student leadership, and a culture of belonging and responsibility.
Her professional service includes membership on ODEW’s Ohio Middle School Fairness and Sensitivity Committee, participation in OASSA professional learning opportunities, and service in numerous school leadership roles, including Student Council Advisor, School Newspaper Advisor, Building Leadership Team and District Leadership Team member, House Dean, PBIS Committee Leader, RIMP Team Leader and testing coordinator.
Beyond the school, Scheiderer has served on the Dr. Sloan Library Board since 2010 and continues to connect school priorities with the needs of the broader community.
She also mentors students through her work as a school leader and collaborates with local courts and resource centers to align student goals with community resources.. ■
