
Bellefontaine boys baseball used a balanced offensive attack and steady pitching to pull away from Greenon, earning a 5–2 victory on Saturday, April 11.
The Chiefs scored in four different innings and capitalized on early opportunities to set the tone.
The hosts jumped out in the first inning when Lincoln Banta tripled and later came around to score, giving Bellefontaine an immediate lead. Bellefontaine added to it in the second as an RBI double was roped by the Chieftains and scored during a two-run stretch that made it 3–0.
Greenon answered back in the 3rd inning, scratching across a run to cut into the deficit. After a quiet fourth inning, Greenon plated another run in the fifth to make it a one-run game at 3–2 and briefly shifted momentum.
Bellefontaine responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth. As a strong response from the Chiefs saw the team restore a two-run cushion. Bellefontaine added an insurance run in the sixth inning, pushing the lead to 5–2 and closing the door on any comeback hopes.
At the plate, Bellefontaine finished with six hits, including three doubles and a triple. Overman went 3 for 3 with two RBIs to lead the offense, while Darling and Banta each chipped in extra-base hits. Sammy Kline also scored a run and reached base once, helping manufacture offense throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Bellefontaine leaned on a strong performance from Aiden Smith, who worked five innings and earned the win. Smith allowed two runs on eight hits, struck out four, and kept Greenon from producing any extra-base hits. Maddox Miller also started and tossed two scoreless innings for the Chiefs
Greenon collected nine hits but struggled to string them together consistently, leaving opportunities on the base paths. The visitors did not commit an error, but Bellefontaine’s timely hitting proved to be the difference.
With the victory, Bellefontaine showed depth on both sides of the ball, combining opportunistic offense with reliable pitching to secure the home win.
The Chiefs now sit at a record of 5-1 and bring CBC foe Kenton Ridge (6-2) to town Monday, April 13, for a huge game in the Kenton Trail Division.
