A talented group of underclassmen helped pace the Bellefontaine High School boys golf team in its season-opening competition Monday at the Urbana Country Club Classic.
The Chieftains finished fourth overall with a team score of 365, highlighted by strong performances from several freshmen making an immediate impact on the varsity squad.
Freshman Hudson Banta led Bellefontaine with a round of 87, while fellow freshman Ean Fultz carded an 89. Junior Noah Smith added a 94, and freshman Keaton Dinovo followed closely with a 95. Another freshman, Sammy Strayer, rounded out the Bellefontaine scoring with a 102.
The impressive showing from the Chieftains' young lineup demonstrates the program's potential as the season gets underway, with four freshmen contributing to the varsity effort in the opening tournament.

Standout individual performances led the tournament from the top of the field. Triad Junior Cohen Millice swung a tournament-best round of 76, while Jonathan Alder captured the team title by an impressive 25-stroke margin, highlighting the strength and depth of its lineup from top to bottom.
Bellefontaine will have little time before its next challenge. The Chieftains are scheduled to host the 29th Ryan Reynolds Invitational on Wednesday at Liberty Hills Golf Club as they look to build on a promising start to the season.
