The West Liberty-Salem Tigers are preparing for one of their biggest games of the season as they take on the West Jefferson Roughriders in a pivotal Ohio Heritage Conference North Division matchup. With first place in the division on the line, the stakes are high for both teams as the regular season enters its final weeks.
West Liberty-Salem enters the contest at 5-2, while West Jefferson brings a 7-1 record into the showdown. The winner will claim sole possession of first place in the OHC North Division and secure at least a share of the division championship, making Friday's matchup a potential season-defining moment for both programs.
The Roughriders have built their success around a productive, run-heavy offense that consistently controls the clock and puts pressure on opposing defenses. West Jefferson is averaging more than 400 yards of total offense per game, including approximately 260 yards on the ground and 140 through the air.
That balanced attack, led by a powerful rushing game, presents a significant challenge for the Tigers. West Liberty-Salem's defense will need to find ways to get off the field, limit the Roughriders' sustained drives and create opportunities for its own offense. Against a team that emphasizes time of possession, every defensive stop becomes increasingly important.
The Tigers will look to their opportunistic defense to help swing the momentum. Defensive standouts Grant Krabill and Bayes Lapp will be key players to watch as West Liberty-Salem searches for game-changing plays. Krabill leads the OHC in interceptions, while Lapp ranks among the conference's sack leaders heading into the final stretch of the season.
Creating turnovers and generating pressure could be critical to disrupting West Jefferson's offensive rhythm. Whether through an interception, a sack or another timely defensive play, the Tigers will need their playmakers to capitalize on opportunities and give their offense extra possessions.

West Liberty-Salem will counter the Roughriders with a balanced offensive attack of its own, looking to establish the ground game early and use it to open up opportunities through the air. Quarterback Beckett Sullivan has been a key contributor to the Tigers' offense, recording eight touchdown passes against three interceptions this season. Senior running back Silas Krabill will also be central to the game plan, entering the matchup ranked third in the OHC in rushing yardage.
If the Tigers can find success running the football, they could force the Roughriders to commit more defenders to the box, creating opportunities for Sullivan and the passing game to make plays downfield.
West Liberty-Salem will also have revenge on its mind after falling to West Jefferson, 20-7, last season. The Tigers will look to reverse that result and prove they can rise to the occasion against one of the conference's top teams.
With a division championship within reach, Friday's contest offers more than just another game on the schedule. It is an opportunity for West Liberty-Salem to make a statement, take control of the OHC North Division race and move one step closer to its ultimate goal.
Against a West Jefferson team that thrives on controlling the clock and wearing down opponents, the Tigers' ability to force mistakes, win critical defensive downs and make the most of their offensive opportunities could ultimately determine who leaves the field atop the division standings.
