Community members are invited to come together later this month for a sweet cause, as Lewistown–Trinity United Methodist Church hosts a benefit ice cream social to support Tony and Susie (Wilt) Grant and their family.

The event takes place Friday, June 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, located at 8088 County Road 54 in Lewistown. Organizers said the evening will feature a variety of homemade foods and desserts, with all proceeds going directly to the Grants.

Guests can enjoy homemade vanilla and orange pineapple ice cream, along with a menu that includes shredded chicken and barbecue pork sandwiches, noodles, salads and desserts. The event will be donation-only, and 100 percent of contributions will benefit the family.

The fundraiser comes as Tony Grant continues a challenging health battle. A longtime educator and wrestling coach at Indian Lake Schools, Grant spent decades shaping the lives of local students both in the classroom and through athletics.

After graduating from Indian Lake High School in 1979, he went on to build a career in education and coaching, eventually serving as director of wrestling operations before retiring in 2015. Even in retirement, Grant remained involved in mentoring young athletes and supporting programs throughout the community.

Tony and his wife, Susie, have been married for 44 years and are well known for their dedication to children and families. Their commitment extended beyond their careers, as they became foster parents and eventually adopted their two sons. Today, they also cherish time with their four grandchildren.

In October 2025, shortly after beginning his retirement, Tony was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy and treatment, his condition progressed, and he is now continuing his fight with strength and determination, supported by his faith and family.

Organizers said the ice cream social is an opportunity for the community to show its support for the Grants during this difficult time.

“God has a role in every love story,” church members said, emphasizing the family’s faith and resilience throughout their journey.

Those who are unable to attend the event, but wish to contribute, can make donations payable to Lewistown–Trinity United Methodist Church, with “Tony Grant” noted in the memo. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 90, Russells Point, Ohio 43348.

All are encouraged to attend, enjoy a meal and support a couple who has given so much to the local community
