Karsyn Newkirk, a daughter of Greg and Amber Newkirk of Bellefontaine, represented Indian Lake High School at this year’s HOBY conference on the campus of Marietta College in early June.
Karsyn’s HOBY representation was sponsored by the Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club.
HOBY participants must meet several qualifications. Candidates must be sophomores in high school, interested in community service, and have an above average scholastic standing. They must also demonstrate high moral character, possess strong leadership skills, and have a desire for helping others.
Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. HOBY programs provide youth selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. ■
