PLAIN CITY, OH — The Benjamin Logan volleyball team finally saw its perfect start come to an end, but not without a fight.

The Lady Raiders entered their matchup with undefeated Jonathan Alder at 12-0, carrying the momentum of an unbeaten start into a matchup that featured some of the Central Buckeye Conference's most productive servers and offensive players.

When the final point was scored, it was the Pioneers who remained unbeaten, defeating Benjamin Logan 25-22, 25-23, 25-14.

The first two sets were tightly contested, with the Raiders staying within striking distance throughout. Benjamin Logan pushed Jonathan Alder to the wire in both opening sets, but the Pioneers managed to make the plays necessary to claim each one by three points.

The third set proved to be a different story as Jonathan Alder created some separation and closed out the match, handing Benjamin Logan its first loss of the season.

Despite the defeat, Benjamin Logan continued to receive contributions from throughout its lineup.

Senior Abby Vance and sophomore Summer Cline led the Raiders with 10 kills apiece, while junior Georgia Daniels added nine kills. Junior Autumn Cline helped keep the offense moving with 27 assists, while Brielle Kline recorded a 2.22 passing rating to lead the Raiders' passing efforts.

The matchup also showcased the level of talent on both sides of the net.

Three of the conference's top five players in aces were on the court, creating an intriguing battle from the service line.

Jonathan Alder sophomore Audrey Lange entered the match ranked second in the conference with 36 aces, while Benjamin Logan junior Autumn Cline and senior Abby Vance ranked third and fourth with 34 and 32 aces, respectively.

Vance has also been a force at the net, entering the matchup ranked fifth in the conference in blocks.

The Pioneers brought plenty of offensive firepower of their own. Lange and teammate Peyton Hanna entered the match ranked first and fourth, respectively, in the conference in kills, giving Jonathan Alder multiple dangerous options offensively.

For Benjamin Logan, the loss moves the Raiders to 12-1 on the season, ending a remarkable 12-match unbeaten start.

While the perfect record is gone, the Raiders' performance through the first 13 matches has established them as one of the conference's top teams, and they will have an opportunity to respond quickly.

Benjamin Logan returns to action Monday, Sept. 21, against Bethel, looking to begin a new winning streak following its first setback of the season.
