Jonathan Alder Sweeps Bellefontaine in Thursday Night Volleyball Match

BELLEFONTAINE — The Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs faced one of their toughest challenges of the season Thursday night when they welcomed first-place Jonathan Alder to town.

The Chiefs showed flashes of strong play early, but the Pioneers' consistency and serving pressure proved difficult to overcome as Jonathan Alder completed a three-set sweep, 25-19, 25-10, 25-16.

The match was part of the Central Buckeye Conference schedule, with Jonathan Alder entering the night near the top of the league standings. The Pioneers ultimately controlled the match, but Bellefontaine battled throughout, particularly during stretches of the first and third sets.

Bellefontaine came out with confidence in the opening set and kept the Pioneers within striking distance. Jonathan Alder eventually created separation and closed out the first set 25-19.

The second set proved to be the most challenging stretch of the night for the Chiefs. Jonathan Alder used a strong serving run to build an early advantage, and Bellefontaine struggled to find an answer as the Pioneers pulled away for a 25-10 victory.

The Chiefs responded in the third set, battling back after falling behind early. Bellefontaine continued to compete and put together several runs of its own, but Jonathan Alder was able to regain control late and finish the match with a 25-16 third-set victory.

Alayna Boyd led the Chiefs offensively with eight kills while adding five digs. Ava Layman contributed six kills and seven digs while going a perfect 10-for-10 from the service line.

At the net, Lexey Brown provided a strong defensive presence with three kills and a team-high five blocks. Jazmin Nelson added two kills and a block, while Arianna Rangel recorded a kill, a block, three digs and went 7-for-7 serving with two aces.

Bellefontaine also received strong defensive efforts from Jillian Ullom, who recorded 18 digs and went 10-for-10 on serve receive. Ullom also contributed two assists and an ace.

Presley Vigansky directed the Chiefs' offense with 18 assists while adding six digs and going 6-for-7 serving. Celine Blinn was perfect on eight service attempts and added 12-for-15 on serve receive along with two digs. Rosie Lightle also went 4-for-4 from the service line.

The loss continued a difficult stretch for Bellefontaine, while Jonathan Alder improved to 17-1 on the season according to the latest matchup information.

Despite the sweep, the Chiefs will have little time to dwell on Thursday's result. Bellefontaine is scheduled to return to its home court Saturday morning when it hosts Bethel at 11:30 a.m., allowing the Chiefs to turn the page and get back into the win column.
