The Lady Chiefs showed their grit and resilience Wednesday night, April 8, battling past a talented Tecumseh squad for a hard-earned 9–7 victory in a game that featured momentum swings, timely hitting and a true team performance from start to finish.
Tecumseh jumped out early, scoring five runs over the first two innings and putting Bellefontaine on its heels. However, the Lady Chiefs never panicked.
After getting on the board in the third inning, Bellefontaine delivered a decisive six-run fourth inning that completely shifted the momentum of the game. The offensive outburst proved to be the turning point, giving the Lady Chiefs a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.
Offensively, Bellefontaine was led by Addison Wical, who went 2-for-4 at the plate and set the tone with a clutch triple. Alayna Boyd also had an impressive night, finishing 2-for-3 and consistently applying pressure to the Tecumseh defense.
Joy Fogan provided one of the biggest swings of the game, launching a towering home run that energized the dugout and extended the Lady Chiefs’ advantage. Addi Smith added key extra-base power as well, recording a double that helped fuel the scoring attack.
In the circle, the battery of Joy Fogan and Riley Crabtree worked together effectively to weather Tecumseh’s lineup. The duo combined for five strikeouts and held their composure throughout a challenging night. Fogan earned the win, battling through adversity and trusting her defense behind her.
Bellefontaine’s defense rose to the occasion when it mattered most, limiting Tecumseh to just 1 run over the final three innings.
Tecumseh continued to fight, making things interesting late, but the Lady Chiefs responded with steady pitching, sound defense, and smart situational play to close out the victory.
“I’m proud of the girls and how they worked together to come away with the win,” said Head Coach Katie Buffkin. “It was a true team effort.”
