CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains secured a Division III district runner-up finish Saturday at the OHSAA District Cross Country Championships, delivering a strong team performance to punch their ticket to the regional meet.
Led by seniors Grace Brown and Hannah Wilson, Bellefontaine demonstrated the depth and determination that have fueled its successful season. Brown paced the Chieftains with a fifth-place finish, leading the team's charge against a competitive district field and putting herself among the top finishers in the race.
Wilson followed with a 36th-place finish, providing an important contribution to Bellefontaine's team score. Camila Cely-Hernandez crossed the line in 40th, followed by Sloan Stolly in 44th and Cameo Greene in 49th. Chloe O'Chocke finished 66th, while Leila Hammond placed 72nd to round out the Chieftains' lineup.
Bellefontaine's runner-up performance reflected a collective effort from its top five runners, whose finishes proved crucial in securing a spot at the regional championships. With a trip to the next round on the line, the Chieftains responded with the determination needed to extend their postseason run.

Head coach Stacey Wilson praised her team's effort, emphasizing the importance of competing together when the stakes were highest.
"I'm really proud of how these girls competed today," Wilson said. "It took a gutsy effort from our top five, especially over that final half mile, to secure another trip to Regionals and the runner-up title. It was a true team effort."
The district runner-up finish gives the Lady Chieftains another opportunity to compete against the area's top programs as they continue their postseason campaign. With Brown leading the way and the team's scoring runners working together, Bellefontaine will look to carry Saturday's momentum into the next stage of competition.
The Lady Chieftains return to action Saturday, Oct. 31, at Troy Memorial Stadium for the OHSAA Division III Regional Cross Country Championships. Bellefontaine will aim to build on its district success and continue its run toward the state championships.
