John’s (3-8-2) to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night in a hard-fought Western Ohio Soccer League matchup.
The Lady Spartans and Blue Jays battled through a scoreless first half, with both teams working to establish possession and position throughout the opening 40 minutes.
Calvary Christian’s midfield helped keep the Spartans in the match, with strong play from Annagail Lambert, Mak Kariuki and Jenna Palmer anchoring the attack and helping create opportunities in the offensive third.
The Spartans also received a standout performance in goal from junior Lydia Davie. Davie made four saves on the night and came up with one of the biggest stops of the game when she turned away a penalty kick attempt by the Blue Jays.
After a scoreless first half, Delphos St. John’s finally broke through in the 60th minute when junior Blaire Gable found the back of the net to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 advantage.
Calvary Christian responded just nine minutes later.
The Spartans created a frantic sequence inside the box, with Lambert and Blythe Lowe combining to keep the attack alive before finding Emily Cronkleton. Cronkleton finished the opportunity to even the match at 1-1 in the 69th minute.
Neither team could find a go-ahead goal during the final minutes, sending the WOSL contest to a 1-1 draw.
The result highlighted a resilient performance from the Spartans, who overcame a second-half deficit and continued to battle until the final whistle.
