The Lady Spartans earned their first victory of the season in impressive fashion Saturday, cruising past Metro Buckeye Conference opponent Yellow Springs 7-0 on their home field.
The Spartans controlled the match from the opening whistle and received a shutout performance from goalkeeper Lydia Davie, who anchored a defensive effort that never allowed the Bulldogs to gain momentum. Defenders Scout Andre and Sarah King continued their strong play on the back line, helping preserve the clean sheet.
The scoring started early when Jenna Palmer set up Eden LeCrone just three minutes into the contest, giving the Spartans a quick 1-0 advantage.
Later in the first half, senior Makarios Kariuki found the back of the net for her first goal of the season off an assist from her sister, Charis Kariuki. The Spartans continued to apply pressure, and with 15:45 remaining before halftime, Palmer's relentless attack in the box forced a Yellow Springs own goal to make it 3-0.
Just 20 seconds later, the Spartans struck again. Blythe Lowe put the ball into play inside the 18-yard box, and Makarios Kariuki finished the opportunity for her second goal of the match, extending the lead to 4-0.
The offensive surge continued before halftime as Evie White capped the first-half scoring with a goal off a beautiful crossing assist from LeCrone, sending the Spartans into the break with a commanding 5-0 advantage.
After a scoreless opening 15 minutes of the second half, Reagan Roell broke through for her first goal of the season to push the lead to 6-0.
The Spartans put the finishing touch on the victory in dramatic fashion when, with just seven seconds remaining, Leeah White assisted Emily Cronkleton for her first goal of the year, closing out the 7-0 final.
Additional standout defensive performances from Karis Willetts and McKinley Roell helped the Spartans secure the shutout as they celebrated their first win of the season in dominant style.
