SPRINGFIELD- The Indian Lake Lakers (4-3) quickly turned a conference clash into a runaway victory Friday night, erupting for 32 points in the second quarter on their way to a 46-14 win over Springfield Shawnee (2-5).
Indian Lake opened the game with a 7-0 lead when Jordan Henderson broke loose for a 22-yard touchdown run with 4:16 remaining in the first quarter. Rush Hurley added the extra point.
The Lakers then took control in the second quarter.
Brady Golliday connected with Brodey Reisinger for an 85-yard touchdown on the opening scoring play of the quarter, giving Indian Lake a 13-0 advantage.
Shawnee answered quickly when Brock Greenstein returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 13-6.
But any momentum the Braves gained was short-lived.
Henderson found the end zone again on a 1-yard run with 6:59 left in the half, and Golliday added a 6-yard rushing touchdown less than two minutes later.
The Lakers continued pouring it on before halftime. Golliday found Blake Sell for a 12-yard touchdown with 2:04 remaining, then connected with JJ Shirk for a 34-yard touchdown with just 21 seconds left.
By halftime, Indian Lake had built a commanding 39-6 advantage.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Lakers added to their lead early in the fourth when Nixon Lillard scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes remaining.
Shawnee managed one final score late in the game, with Haden Chilcote scoring on a 16-yard run with 30 seconds left. Landon Cattell added the two-point conversion to make the final 46-14.
Golliday orchestrated the Lakers' offensive attack, completing 12 of 16 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Reisinger was his favorite target, hauling in eight passes for 167 yards and a touchdown, including the 85-yard scoring strike that helped ignite Indian Lake's second-quarter explosion.
Henderson added 86 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored twice, while Lillard finished with 19 rushing yards and a touchdown.
As a team, Indian Lake piled up 514 total yards, including 297 through the air and 217 on the ground. The Lakers also held Shawnee to just 77 total yards.
The Lakers' second-quarter outburst ultimately proved to be the difference, as Indian Lake turned a 7-0 game after one quarter into a 33-point halftime advantage and never looked back.
