The Indian Lake girls soccer team endured a challenging stretch this week, but the Lakers showed signs of progress as they worked through three difficult matchups and finished the week with a hard-earned draw.
After suffering consecutive shutout losses to Piqua and Jonathan Alder, Indian Lake responded with a more competitive effort against Marion Harding, battling the Presidents to a 1-1 tie on the road.
The week began Saturday with Indian Lake hosting Piqua. The Lakers struggled to generate momentum against the Indians, eventually falling 4-0.
Rather than allowing the loss to define the week, Indian Lake quickly turned its attention to the next opportunity, returning to Laker Stadium Monday night to face a talented Jonathan Alder squad.
The Pioneers proved to be another difficult opponent, handing the Lakers an 8-0 defeat. Despite the final score, Indian Lake found moments it could build upon as the team continued searching for consistency and confidence.
The Lakers then faced another road test Tuesday against Bellefontaine before closing the week with a trip to Marion Harding.
Against the Presidents, Indian Lake showed a different level of fight.
The Lakers battled Marion Harding throughout the contest, with neither team able to separate itself. The game ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, giving Indian Lake a positive result to close out the week.
Junior Karsyn Newkirk provided the Lakers' lone goal, finding the back of the net off a perfectly placed assist from fellow junior Allison Overmyer.
For a team that had been shut out in its previous two contests, the goal and the resulting draw provided a meaningful response to a difficult start to the week.
The Lakers now have an opportunity to carry that momentum forward.
Indian Lake will return to action Monday night on the road against Shawnee, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
After a week that included two tough losses and a hard-fought draw, the Lakers will look to build on the positives from their battle with Marion Harding and continue developing as the season moves forward.
