COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) welcomes visitors to the 2026 Ohio State Fair, which runs through Aug. 9, with the opening of a new butterfly house, aviary and reimagined gift store.

All of these new areas, as well as favorite annual attractions, will be available to explore during the state fair every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Natural Resources Park, located in the southeast corner of the fairgrounds.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday and welcome visitors to ODNR’s Natural Resources Park with displays of red, white and blue,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz.

“This year’s state fair is all about honoring the people, the places, and the stories that have left a lasting impact on Ohio and across America.”

A newly constructed butterfly house will welcome guests to learn about and see seven different butterfly species, including monarchs and swallowtails. Improvements to the butterfly house include a new ADA-compliant entrance and boardwalk, which also provide a better viewing experience.

Guests will also find the newly constructed Ruthven Aviary featuring mallard, wild turkey, house finch, American robin, and northern cardinal.

During the fair, visitors are also invited to enjoy free entertainment in the shade at the amphitheater, including The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show and K9s for Conservation.

On Aug. 5, wildlife educator and adventurer Coyote Peterson will have a unique performance where he will share his experiences and adventures outdoors.

When it gets hot outside, head indoors to the newly remodeled ODNR Gift Store, where hundreds of souvenirs, clothing items, and toys are available for purchase.

The State Parks Passport will also be available for purchase, highlighting 76 unique adventures to take around the Buckeye State.

Outside the gift store is the ODNR Information Booth, full of free maps, guides, and handouts to teach you all about Ohio’s outdoors.
