Community members and swimming enthusiasts gathered at Hoffman Pool in Bellefontaine on Thursday, June 18, for a final input meeting regarding the design of a new facility. The old pool will remain open until Aug. 16 (a date change from previous announcements). (SHARYN KOPF | THE CHRONICLE)

Out with the old as we anticipate the new — a final community input meeting was hosted by the Hoffman Pool in Bellefontaine on Thursday, June 18.

People were able to stop by, peruse the plans, and vote on water features and shade options before those schematics are finalized.

This Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District (BJRD) project, which has been in the works for years, is finally coming together. Thursday’s gathering was the third community engagement session with MSA Design, which is leading the development.

With everything coming together, this is the last summer for the current Hoffman Pool, which was built in 1968 and is definitely showing its age.

“The new pool will be easier for the city to operate and more efficient,” Katie Freeland, project manager with MSA, said. “It will be a little smaller but more efficiently laid out.”

MSA Design unveiled site plans at the June 18 meeting for the new, completely redesigned Hoffman Pool, set to open in time for Memorial Day 2027. (ARCHITECT’S RENDERING)
