COVINGTON- The Riverside Pirates softball team (8-9) fell behind early and could never find its footing in a blowout loss to Covington (14-2).

Behind errors and walks, Riverside saw an 18-0 deficit at the end of the second inning. On the night, Riverside’s sloppy play totaled up 10 errors and 15 unearned runs.

Offensively, the Pirates were fueled by the sophomore duo of Molly Carman and Chloe Purtee. Carman tallied two hits, and Purtee hit a home run in the contest for the Pirates.

Covington took a commanding 18-0 lead heading into the third inning of play, and kept pressing offensively, forcing the ball into play, and the Pirates’ defense continued to make mistakes on the night.

At the end of the third, the Lady Buccaneers had tacked on two more runs and then five more in the fourth. Fueled by 23 hits and a pair of home runs by the home team, they ended the shortened game with 26 runs scored.

Of the 23 hits, two were home runs—one by Cassidy Iddings and another by Kylie Palsgrove.

Senior Jayda McClure picked up the win for the Lady Buccaneers. She pitched the first three innings and allowed one hit while striking out a trio of batters.

Riverside girls return to the field Saturday, April 18, to play a doubleheader against Benjamin Logan at home.
