The Benjamin Logan Raiders put together a gritty effort Friday night, but visiting Lima Senior came away with an 18-10 victory in a hard-fought Week 3 matchup at Benjamin Logan High School on Sept. 4.

Lima Senior, entering the contest with a 2-1 record, made the trip to Bellefontaine looking to continue its strong start to the season, while the Raiders were searching for their second win of the year. Benjamin Logan showed plenty of fight throughout the evening, but the Spartans used timely big plays and a strong defensive performance to secure the win.

The Raiders struck first and energize the home crowd early. Quarterback Adam Tinsman capped an opening drive with a quarterback keeper into the end zone, and the ensuing extra point gave Benjamin Logan an early 7-0 advantage.

Lima Senior answered quickly. Facing a fourth-and-seven situation deep inside Raider territory, the Spartans converted in dramatic fashion when quarterback and receiver connected for a touchdown pass to Jeff Williams. The two-point conversion attempt sailed incomplete, allowing Benjamin Logan to cling to a narrow 7-6 lead.

Both defenses settled in after the early fireworks, and the score remained unchanged through the remainder of the first quarter. Benjamin Logan's defense repeatedly forced difficult situations for the Spartans, while the Raiders offense battled for field position in a physical contest.

The game's turning point came in the second quarter when Lima Senior broke through with a long touchdown pass. The explosive play flipped momentum and gave the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish. Despite the setback, the Raiders continued to compete and kept the game within reach behind several key defensive stops.

For much of the second half, both teams traded punts as defensive units controlled the tempo. Benjamin Logan repeatedly came up with crucial tackles and forced Lima Senior to work for every yard, while the offense searched for an opportunity to put together a scoring drive.

Lima Senior eventually extended its advantage in the fourth quarter with an additional touchdown, creating some separation on the scoreboard. The Raiders answered with a field goal to remain within striking distance, but time ultimately ran out before they could complete a comeback attempt.

One bright spot for Benjamin Logan continued to be the reliable leg of Brandon Heater. The Columbus Dispatch Player of the Week nominee added another extra point and field goal to his season totals, further establishing himself as one of the area's top special teams performers.

Although the final score favored the Spartans, the Raiders showed resilience throughout the contest, battling until the final whistle against a talented Lima Senior squad. Benjamin Logan will look to build on that effort as it prepares for the challenges that lie ahead in the heart of the season.

After navigating a challenging non-conference slate to open the season, the Raiders will now turn their attention to conference play. The battle-tested group has faced a series of tough opponents through the first three weeks, providing valuable experience on both sides of the ball. With league competition set to begin, Benjamin Logan will look to build on the lessons learned during the early portion of the schedule and translate that growth into success as the race for conference standings gets underway.
