The United Way of Logan County and Logan County Libraries teamed up to celebrate the life of Dolly Parton last week, following her passing at age 80 on Aug. 25.

Each Logan County library branch hosted a special story time throughout the week, with a United Way staff member reading a book from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Tuesday, Sept. 8, Jamie Morley, United Way community engagement director, read Ice Cream Face to several children at the Lakeview branch library.

In 1995, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee.

Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a ove of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners.

In 2016, the United Way of Logan County became a local affiliate to bring Imagination Library to Logan County in 2016 with the help of local donors and corporate partners.

The first books were mailed to Logan County children in January 2017. Since then, more than 166,000 books have been mailed to local preschoolers.
