Riverside huddles together before an offensive play. IRVS EDITS

Riverside continued its impressive season Friday night, rolling past Troy Christian 34-6 to improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Three Rivers Conference, securing at least a share of the TRC championship.

The Pirates established control early and relied on a productive rushing attack to pull away from the Eagles, finding the end zone five times on the ground while limiting Troy Christian to six points.

Riverside opened the scoring in the first quarter when Gunner Carpenter powered his way into the end zone on a 9-yard run with 6:58 remaining. Demenick Wise added the extra point to give the Pirates a 7-0 advantage.

The Pirates extended their lead in the second quarter behind two more rushing touchdowns. Justin Mazariegos broke through for a 7-yard touchdown run with 10:07 left in the half, although the extra point was unsuccessful.

Dylan Trimble then provided a significant spark with a 44-yard touchdown run with 2:34 remaining in the second quarter. Wise converted the extra point, sending Riverside into halftime with a commanding 20-3 lead.

Troy Christian managed to get on the scoreboard with a 48-yard field goal from Austen Taylor, but the Eagles struggled to keep pace with the Pirates' ground game.

Riverside continued to build its advantage in the third quarter as Trimble found the end zone for the second time, scoring on a 3-yard run with 3:42 remaining. Wise's extra point pushed the lead to 27-3.

Taylor added another field goal for Troy Christian in the fourth quarter, connecting from 22 yards to make it 27-6. However, Riverside answered with another touchdown to put the game away.

Carpenter capped the scoring with his second touchdown of the night, breaking into the end zone on a 6-yard run with 8:25 remaining. Wise's extra point completed the scoring at 34-6.

With the victory, Riverside improved to 7-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play, guaranteeing the Pirates at least a share of the Three Rivers Conference title.

The Pirates will return home next week to host Cedarville in a nonconference matchup, replacing their originally scheduled contest against Lehman.
