Riverside boys baseball squared off against Three Rivers Conference foe Troy Christian (2-2) Thursday night, April 9, for a 7-1 win.

The Pirates have now won back-to-back games after dropping their first game of the season to Bethel last Monday.

Sophomore Brody Orsborne led the charge, swatting two hits and coming around to score three times in the contest.

Riverside started the game strong, taking a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the second inning.

It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the Eagles responded with a late push. Down 7-0 heading into the final two frames of the game, Troy Christian made a late push, scoring one run in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to give the Pirates a late scare.

The Pirates’ plate discipline was a vital part of the offense in the win, collecting eight free passes in the game, providing runs without the bats being super active. Riverside scored seven times on just 5 hits for the contest, paving the way through strike-zone knowledge.

Syler Clark handled the load on the mound for the Pirates. He was on the mound for 6.2 innings of work, striking out a dozen hitters and confusing the Eagles’ offense all night.

Along with his pitching prowess, he also contributed offensively with an RBI and scored a run.

The Pirates are back in action Friday night, April 10, against Lehman Catholic in Sidney.
