Yes, you read that right. Over seven innings, 43 runs were scored, 40 hits were collected, 12 walks were issued and a combined 10 errors occurred when the Lady Pirates faced Milton Union Tuesday, April 21.

Both teams finished with 20 hits, but Milton-Union capitalized on extra-base production and consistent offensive innings to build enough separation.

The Bulldogs (7-12) scored in six of the seven innings, including a decisive nine-run third inning that erased an early deadlock and set the tone for the remainder of the game to defeat Riverside (8-10).

Sophia Luciano led Milton-Union’s offense with a standout performance, going 4 for 6 with six RBIs, including a home run that powered the third-inning surge. Maddie Entingh also had a big day at the plate, finishing 5 for 6 with four runs scored. Hailey Hoying added four hits and three RBIs, while Bella Brazina scored four runs in the game.

Milton-Union finished 23 runs on 23 hits with seven walks, producing a .548 team batting average and .786 slugging percentage. The Bulldogs also hit for extra bases, recording three doubles, two triples and a home run.

Riverside countered with a massive fourth inning, scoring 16 runs to briefly swing momentum back in its favor and take a 20-18 lead. The Beavers were paced by Zoey Ransbottom and Ellie Zwiebel, who each drove in four runs. Emilee Robinson and Molly Carman both went 3 for 5, combining for six runs scored.

Riverside posted a .476 team batting average with four doubles, but defensive miscues proved costly. The Beavers committed six errors, compared to four by Milton-Union, allowing extended innings in a game with little margin for error.

Riverside was fueled by a group effort offensively, with Molly Carman and Emilee Robinson each getting on base and scoring three runs apiece. An efficient effort from Emma Strayer also helped keep the game close, collecting two RBIs and scoring two in the game.

In the circle, Campbell Berner earned the win for Milton-Union after allowing 10 runs over 6 2/3 innings, striking out four. Luciano recorded the final out. Robinson took the loss for Riverside, giving up 23 runs, 17 earned, while pitching the complete game.

Milton-Union scored four runs in the sixth inning to retake the lead for good and held Riverside scoreless over the final three frames to close out the high-scoring conference matchup.
