WEST MANSFIELD, Ohio — Runners, walkers, and community members gathered in West Mansfield on Independence Day to participate in the annual Firecracker 5000, one of two annual races held in Logan County to start Independence Day festivities.
The race began in the heart of West Mansfield as competitors lined up early to take part in the 5K event. With American flags displayed throughout the course and spectators cheering from the sidelines, participants enjoyed ideal conditions for the holiday race.
The Firecracker 5000 featured runners from across the region, ranging from experienced competitors chasing personal bests to families and first-time participants looking to celebrate the Fourth of July in an active way. Following the race, awards were presented to the top overall finishers as well as winners in various age divisions.
A surprising finisher led all women in the race, as 11-year-old Nessa Davis bolted her way to a blazing 23:10.31 finish, pacing a 7:28 mile time. Nessa was joined shortly by her mother, Carly, with a time of 24:43.29
“Jesus was with me every step of the way,” said the younger Davis.
On the men's half of the bracket, Kyle Sharp headlined all persons in attendance with a time of 20:06.44. A pace of 6:29 per mile to kick off his Independence Day.
The efforts of event organizers, the volunteers, sponsors, law enforcement personnel, and community members who helped make the race possible and ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
In addition to promoting health and wellness, the Firecracker 5000 serves as an opportunity for residents and visitors to come together and celebrate community spirit during the Independence Day holiday.
As participants crossed the finish line, many stayed to enjoy post-race awards and socialize with fellow runners, continuing a tradition that has become a highlight of West Mansfield’s Fourth of July festivities.
The annual Firecracker 5000 once again demonstrated the strong sense of community that defines West Mansfield, bringing together athletes, families, and supporters for a memorable holiday celebration.
