Logan County residents have the chance to get a head start on celebrating Independence Day and America’s 250th birthday this weekend, as three area villages host festivities Saturday, July 27.
Fireworks are planned for Saturday evening at dusk in Rushsylvania and West Liberty, following a full-slate of daytime activities at the Rushsylvania Ballpark and Lions Park, respectively.
In addition, the village of Quincy hosts a community-wide gathering “250 years of Freedom,” with food, hayrides and family fun Saturday.
Quincy Mayor Dan Robinson said festivities begin at 11 a.m. at the park, starting with a hayride to recognize local veterans.
Retired military service members are invited to participate in the hayride as the first honored guests for this activity. Following the veterans, other attendees can participate in free hayrides during the afternoon.
Food and craft vendors will be on site as well, offering a variety of tasty fare and handcrafted items for sale.
In addition, free hot dogs, chips and pop will be served, as supplies last, as donated by the village, with local firefighters assisting grilling up the hot dogs, the mayor noted.
Live entertainment, face painting and other children’s activities will be part of the afternoon at the park as well through about 3 p.m.
A car show is planned as well, and a 1929 Quincy fire truck will be part of the display, as the vehicle was recently donated back to the village by its private owner, Mayor Robinson said.
In Rushsylvania, festivities kick off with the parade at noon, and the parade line-up begins at 10:30 a.m.
Music will play a central role throughout the day, with DJ Joe Pine of American Entertainment providing a mix of Top 40 hits, a coordinated light show experience and patriotic music during the fireworks.
A lineup of food trucks and vendors will offer refreshments and local goods. A cornhole tournament is set to provide a friendly competitive option for those looking to join in the fun.
Organizers encourage attendees to come early, bring friends and family, and enjoy a full day of entertainment at the Rushsylvania Ballpark, prior to the fireworks at dusk.
West Liberty’s annual Independence Day celebration takes place Saturday at Lions Park, offering a full day of baseball, classic cars, music, food, and fireworks — all leading up to a patriotic close under the summer sky.
The day begins with 10U tournament baseball games running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving families a chance to enjoy America’s pastime all day long.
By noon, the celebration shifts into full gear. vendors and food trucks open (Noon–10 p.m.); car show begins (Noon–6:30 p.m.); and live music kicks off (Noon–10 p.m.).
The afternoon begins with live music from Kenny Chaffin Music (Noon–3 p.m.), setting a relaxed, festive tone.
Guests can also enter or watch the cornhole tournament and enjoy the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) while walking and shopping.
The evening wraps around live music from Another Round (7–10 p.m.), keeping the celebration going as the sun begins to set.
Then families settle in with chairs and blankets, preparing for the night’s grand finale, with fireworks closing out the night at dusk.
